Mario doesn't exactly have the characteristics of a super hero. He's short, pudgy and sports a Ron Jeremy mustache. He's always losing the girl, and he kills innocent turtles.He needs mushroom to go stronger.
Nevertheless, the likable Italian is No. 1 because his games are always good and are enjoyed by everyone. How else could he sell more than 200 million units, the most of any franchise? Appropriately, his face has become synonymous with video games -- the greatest icon there ever was.
